27 Oct Get On the Ark!
Scripture Text: Luke 12:54-56
(54) And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower, and so it is.
(55) And ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.
(56) Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
This world has been spinning out of control for quite some time now. Moral and societal decadence is at an all-time high. God has watched sin and immorality prevail in this time more than was in evidence at Sodom and Gomorrah. God, of course, destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah for its shameful, sinful, homosexual decadence (See Romans 1:24-32). He has watched this world become more vile and violent than was in the days of Noah. God destroyed the whole world saving only Noah and his family. God tries to save before he destroys. God agreed with Abraham that if at least 10 people could be found living right in Sodom & Gomorrah he would not destroy it. 10 people living for God could not be found so only Lot and his 2 daughters were spared. Lot’s wife of course was spared the destruction of Sodom & Gomorrah, but she disobeyed the commandment given to them to not look back and was turned into a pillar of salt.
Jesus said that the last days would be as it was in the days of Noah. God had Noah preach 120 years to the people of his day. Noah preached as he built the ark beseeching the people to turn from their sins and to turn to God. They did not. Despite seeing some things that they had never seen before, things that should have shaken them, they still would not turn to God. They had never seen an ark nor had they ever seen animals, who normally would kill and eat each other, coming orderly and peaceably onto an ark. Despite those attention-getting sights, they paid God no attention. Instead of looking for mercy, they looked to mock Noah. They believed that since it had never rained from the sky before that there would never be a chance that it could happen. It did happen.
God sent the rain down, despite their wayward belief, and flooded the world. God destroyed everything by water promising that the next time it will be by fire.
Noah and his family were saved from God’s wrath by being in the ark. Jesus is the Ark of Safety. He who abides within him shall be saved from the wrath to come. God is extending great mercy now because he knows his wrath is just as great. God gave man in Noah’s day 120 years to repent and turn to God. We don’t know when the 120 years began, and we don’t know when the 120 years was up, neither did the people of Noah’s day.
Similarly, we are living today strictly on God’s mercy as he is beseeching people to accept Christ, the Ark, as their personal savior before he calls time out. We don’t know when the period of mercy began, because this world is way past the evil of Noah’s day, nor do we know when it will be up. Thus, it behooves anyone that is not on the ark to get into the ark.
Let’s do a test. Say out loud the things that you feel are worth going to hell for. Say them out loud so that you can clearly hear them. The things you feel are worth being eternally separate from God for. The things you feel are worth burning and burning forever for (Read Luke 16:19-31). If you can’t seem to say them aloud, then why are you holding onto them. And if by chance, you did list some things out loud, God is good at giving a person what they ask for.
Repent of your sins, turn from your sins, and get into the Ark. Turn over full control to God, just like Noah did. He did not try to steer the ark, he let God do it which enabled Noah and his family to land safely. Let God steer your vessel and you will land safely on the shores of Heaven.
